Did you know...why sealing a tooth is better than waiting for decay and filling the cavity?

Dental sealants are thin plastic coatings that are painted on the grooves of the chewing surfaces of the back teeth to protect them from decay. Most tooth decay in children and teens occurs on these surfaces. Sealing teeth can save time, money, and the discomfort sometimes associated with dental fillings.
Facts: Sealants may reduce occlusal (chewing surface) decay by as much as 65%. Decay damages teeth permanently. Each time a tooth is filled, more drilling is done, making the tooth a little weaker. The dental sealant product that we use does not contain Bisphenol A (BPA). Sealants are never bad when done well.

The following is a list of things that Dentists and Hygienists consider before placing sealants:

1. Is there previous decay experience?

2. How “groovy” are the teeth?

3. How well does the child clean their teeth?
